A deeply creative and original artist, Reuven Rubin is known for his Cezanne-esque art, imbued with vibrant color and an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life. Born to a Hasidic family in Romania, Rubin arrived to Israel in 1912 to study at the famed Bezalel Academy. Rejecting the school’s classic approach, he then traveled to Paris and then America to continue his studies. When he returned to Israel, he joined the artists’ rebellion against Bezalel’s teachings and founded a modern style known as “Eretz Yisrael”. He was the first Israeli ambassador to Romania from 1948-1950. His career as an artist was diverse and celebrated - from designing backdrops for various Israeli theaters to holding solo and group exhibitions in France, Italy, Romania, Israel, and America. His unique artwork is now displayed in galleries and private collections worldwide.
