Bronze Medallion with Bar Mitzvah Theme and Twelve Tribes Design

This fabulous 5.90cm medallion is made from bronze and features a Bar Mitzvah theme on the front and images of the logos of the Twelve Tribes of Israel on the back. The front face of the medallion features Hebrew and English text from the Ethics of the Fathers about when a child comes of age and becomes an adult together with an image of a young man reading from the Torah while wearing Tefillin. The reverse side of the coin features the Emblem of the State of Israel in the center surrounded by the symbols of the Tribes of Israel such as Judah’s lion and Benjamin’s wolf.

The design on this item was an official state medal design used in 1978. The term Bar Mitzvah means “Son of the Commandments” and refers to the age when Jewish males are obligated to follow all the commandments, at the age of 13. In Israel it is common for the Bar Mitzvah to be celebrated at the Western Wall, in Jerusalem.

This coin was produced in Israel by the Israel Coins and Medal Corporation that produces official medals for the State of Israel as well as other high quality jewelry and Judaica items.
