Ceramic Plate with Hebrew Script and French Design

This amazing ceramic plate has been decorated with an 18th Century French design from the town of Luneville and features Hebrew text and a scene from the Purim story. The Hebrew text appears in two rows and surrounds a scene of Haman leading Mordechai on a horse that appears in bright colors and is accented by a floral pattern. The Hebrew text on the outer rim reads “Shelach Manot Ish LeRe’ehu U’Matanot Le’Evyonim”, means “Send gifts to friends and the poor” in English and refers to two of the Mitzvot associated with the holiday of Purim. The second row of text around the center has a Hebrew quote from the Book of Esther and also includes the names Haman and Mordechai in Hebrew letters. This item is a perfect holiday gift idea!

Purim is the holiday that celebrates the salvation of the Jews from annihilation by the Persian government. Giving gifts to friends and to the poor are common practice as is dressing up in colorful costumes.

This plate comes with a certificate from the Israel Museum as well as a small pamphlet with background information in Hebrew and English.
