Silver Kabbalah Medallion with Menorah, Hebrew Text, Tree and Pomegranates

This fine 3.86cm sterling silver medallion features mystical them and is adorned with Jewish motifs and symbols. The front of the medallion is decorated with a seven branch menorah made up of Kabbalistic text along with leaves, pomegranates and a verse from the Book of Daniel. The back of the coin features the tree of knowledge as conceived by Kabbalistic thought with different colored circles overlaid with Hebrew text and overlaying additional Hebrew text in the background.

Jewish Mysticism, or Kabbalah, became popular in the 12th and 13th centuries in Spain and Southern France through the publishing of the Zohar. The study was furthered by Kabbalists in Safed, Israel in the 15th century and by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero. The study of mysticism is attributed to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, a Tannaitic era Rabbi.
